In the New Testament, we read about people who were “blessed” by God as a result of their faith. This is something that continues to challenge us, as Christians today. How can we be blessed by God? Is this another way of saying we will be rewarded in heaven? Or does it mean something else? In the Old Testament, when people were blessed by God they received some tangible benefits. A man who was blessed might experience a rise in his social status or an increase in personal wealth and prosperity. An entire nation that was blessed would then enjoy national prosperity and military success. But in the New Testament, there is no mention of these material blessings from God, which suggests something else is going on with this idea of being “blessed” by Him. The Greek word used for blessing in the New Testament (eulogē) has three primary meanings: to speak well of; to commend, and to give good fortune or happiness. These previous meanings help us understand what it means to be blessed by God as a Christian:
To be blessed means to come under God’s commendation and approval.
To be blessed means to come under God’s commendation and approval. In the New Testament, we are told that God is “rich” in blessings. The Bible also tells us that God wants to bless us. So, if He wants to bless us, and He is “rich” in blessings, why aren’t we all experiencing a dramatic rise in our social status and an increase in personal wealth and prosperity? One reason is that we are not under God’s commendation and approval. If we were, then He would be pouring out His riches and blessings on us—just as He wants to. We can come under God’s commendation by believing in Jesus, His teachings, and His sacrifice on the cross for our sins. We do this by acknowledging that we are sinners who need saving and by taking Jesus at His word and asking Him to come into our hearts and forgive us.
Being blessed also means experiencing God’s goodness and happiness in your life.
God’s will is for us to experience His goodness and happiness in this life and for this life to reflect His goodness and happiness. As Christians, we are told that God’s goodness and happiness, which is known as His “fruit,” is “in us” if we are in Him. This means that as long as we are under God’s commendation and approval and living in obedience to Him, His goodness and happiness will show up in our lives—not as some type of reward but as an expression of His love for us. Being “blessed” also means experiencing God’s goodness and happiness in our lives when we allow His love to be poured out on us. This happens when we ask for God’s help and ask Him to forgive us and come into our hearts, as well as when we ask for His presence and guidance in our lives.
Knowing this will help us understand how being “blessed” is different from simply being “rewarded” in heaven.
There is a big difference between being blessed by God here and being rewarded by Him in heaven. Being rewarded in heaven is about God giving us what we deserve for our good works—it is about Him paying us for what we have done, so to speak. Being blessed by God, on the other hand, is not about what we deserve or what we have done. It is about God’s love and mercy and how He pours out His riches and blessings on us in response to our belief and trust in Jesus.
How does being “blessed” mean we are held in a position of trust?
We are placed in a position of trust when we come under God’s commendation and approval and are given a position of authority where we can influence and affect people. When we believe in Jesus and ask to be forgiven for our sins and ask Him to come into our hearts, we come into a closer relationship with God. This means that God’s Spirit is in us, and He is available to guide us and help us in our daily lives. It also means that we are held in a position of trust as His representatives in the world and given a position of authority where we can affect and influence others.
Finally, when we are blessed by God, it means that we’ve been put in a position of trust and responsibility.
Being blessed by God means that we have been put in a position of trust and responsibility. This is how God operates in the world and in our lives. He calls us to take part in His plan and then He puts us in a position of trust where we can influence and affect other people. God blesses us so that we can bless others. He puts us in a position of trust and responsibility so that we can use the gifts, talents, and abilities He has given us to accomplish His will and help others.
Conclusion
If we are blessed by God, it means that we have been put in a position of trust and responsibility. This means that we have been given the responsibility to share God’s word with others and to encourage them to come into a closer relationship with God. If you are truly committed to your work without bad intentions. God will bless you abundantly. The more faithful you are serving God, the more God will use you mightily.
